It’s Monday! And apparently Cake Day is a year old now. I got a text this morning that said, “Hundreds of years ago Teutonic courage ignited the flame of Cake Day within the hearts of men. One year ago today marks our existence within the light of this mighty blaze. Cakus Diem, my friends.”
On Saturday I watched Dudley Do-Right. Remember that? It was one of my favorite movies when I was a youngun. Now that I’m older and more mature, I didn’t enjoy it as much. However, I did laugh out loud at the part where the Indians were clogging during the corn festival. Why is that funny? I don’t know.
My phonology homework this weekend was about vowel raising in Canadian English diphthongs. I think Dudley Do-Right helped me understand that phonological phenomenon much better.
My church, which has been building-hopping for several months, has now started meeting in the Holiday Inn at 9:30 in the morning (which is EARLY to us college students). I am tempted to stay at the hotel every Saturday night so I can sleep in and go downstairs to church in my pajamas. Just kidding. I can’t afford such a luxury.
Last night Owl City came to OU and gave a free concert! Their most famous song is Fireflies, which you may have heard. I didn’t go.
On Saturday, Cody and I went to visit his sister Keri and her husband Jacob, who are hilarious and wonderful people. They were intrigued by the fact that I don’t ever play video games, so they made me play four or five different games in an attempt to convert me. The only one I was remotely good at was a Japanese drumming game. The rest were REALLY BAD. And at times my hosts were less than helpful. When I asked what I was supposed to do in Super Mario Universe World or whatever it is, Jacob said, “Don’t worry, your instincts will kick in.” They did NOT and I drowned three seconds later. It was fun though and I got a glimpse of an aspect of American culture that was lacking from my childhood (not that I ever missed it).
This weekend I watched The Little Mermaid (which I rented from Family Video for FREE!) For some reason the evil eels reminded me of Fritze. I miss that cat.
I didn’t get any trick-or-treaters! A kid would have to be pretty dumb to come trick-or-treating in Kraettli (the internationals are either throwing wild parties or completely oblivious). Still. I was prepared. Sigh.
What did you do for Halloween?
It’s gonna be a rough week. Tests! Advising appointments! Deadlines! Meetings! Bears! Projects! Homework! Laundry! Anarchy!
This is from xkcd.com and it’s funny:
